Western Australia records spike in Covid-19 cases and five more deaths

Western Australia has recorded a spike in Covid-19 infections and five more deaths.

WA Health reported 8145 new infexjmtzywctions overnight, taking the total number of active cases to 48,049.

Five historical deaths were reported, including a man and woman aged in their 50s, two men aged in their 70s and a woman aged in her 80s.

“Due to patient confidentiality, no further information will be released by the department on these deaths,” a statement read on Tuesday.

There are now 242 people with Covid-19 in hospital — up from 231 the previous day — including six in intensive care.

Among the new infections, 2511 came from PCR tests, while 5634 were from rapid antigen tests.

There was a total of 18,444 PCR tests conducted on Monday.

The figures appear to reflect the fact that fewer people get tested on weekends.

WA has a third dose vaccination rate of 76.1 per cent among people aged 16 and over.
