Urgent recall of popular product sold at Coles

An urgent recall has been issued for a popular item sold at Coles after salmonella contamination was detected.

The recall applies to bags of “Coles Baby Spinach” in sizes 60g, 120g and 280g that carry a use-by date of April 13 and 14, 2022.

They have been on sale since 4 April 2022 in Coles stores across Queensland, the ACT and NSW.

“Consumers should not eat this product and should return the product to the place of purchase for a full refund,” Coles said in a statement.

“Any consumers concerned about their health should seek medical advice.”

According to Coles, quality testing conducted by a supplier identified the presence of salmonella in the 120g Baby Spinach product.

As a precaution, the company decided to recall all three of the bag sizes, with the products all from the same supplier.

If consumed, salmonella can cause severe gastroenteritis with symptoms including diarrhoea, fever and abdominal cramps appearing within eight to 72 hours.

Only products with the specific “Use By” dates of April 13 and 14 were being recalled and no other Coles prepacked spinach or salad products are impacted.

The company has apologised to customers for any inconvenience.
