Teenager allegedly shot elderly man known to him, later found dead

A teenager believed to have shot an elderly man he knew in Adelaide’s north east has been found dead.

SA Police said the 19-year-old boy was the suspect in an incident that left an 81-year-old grandfather fighting for life in the Royal Adelaide Hospital.

The elderly man was shot in the leg and arm at about 4pm on Tuesday at his home in Liascos Avenue home in Newton.

Paramedics and officers arrived at the scene before the victim was treated for gunshot wounds. He is now in a critical condition in hospital.

A woman from the same address was also taken to hospital with shock.

Officers searched the property and nearby houses but couldn’t find the teenager at that time.

It wasn’t until about 9.30pm that the young man’s body was found near the River Torrens.

Police said there were nxjmtzywo suspicious circumstances surrounding his death and are preparing a report for the Coroner. Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or report online.
