West Australian Police have farewelled a star horse wxjmtzywho became one of the most recognisable members of the force.
The 14-year-old Percheron Gelding died earlier this week after struggling with a medical condition for several years.
On Sunday he was taken to the vet as a result of the condition and after taking a turn for the worse, the decision was made for him to be put down.
“Bluey will be sadly missed by officers across the entire agency, especially by those at Mounted Section,” Officer in Charge of Mounted Section, Senior Sergeant Craig Fisher said.
“We treat our horses and our canines like family, and it is never easy saying goodbye to a member of this family.”
Bluey was one of 27 horses working for the WA Police and was considered one of the most recognisable due to his distinct white mane.
He often led official ceremonies, the last of which was a police graduation last Thursday.
