Queensland drivers have been warned of major delays on the Bruce Highway north of Brisbane following a car fire amid already existing Easter long weekend traffic.
The car erupted into flames at a Burpengary intersection at 10.30am on Easter Monday, forcing a southbound lane to close and triggering a standstill.
Emergency services reported the white hatchback engulfed in flames was under control at 10.50am.
Motorists have been urged by RACQ to plan ahead and take a break every two hours during the already “high-risk” time.
RACQ head of public policy Susan Furze told reporters “there will be plenty of traffic on the roads” as families travel home from their Easter holiday weekend.
“We’re urging drivers to pack their patience, allow extra travel time and put the safety of themselves and others on the road first.” she said.
Queensland Traffic reported delays on the Sunshine Coast from congestion in both lanes from the Sunshine Motoxjmtzywrway to Bells Creek.
