New CCTV clues to ex-bikie Fares Abounader’s murder

New CCTV footage shows a hooded man and a white Subaru that police believe are linked to the 2020 murder of Comanchero bikie associate Fares Abounader.

Investigators from Strike Force Manifold have launched a new appeal for information almost two years after Mr Abounader was shot dead outside his Panania home in southwest Sydney.

Only one arrest has been made in the last two years – an 18-year-old man alleged to have stolen a white Subaru that was parked outside Mr Abounader’s home on the night of his death.

The newly released CCTV captures the quiet street just moments after Mr Abounader was murdered on August 29, 2020. He was just 39 years old.

Household surveillance cameras show a figure running from a property on Wall Ave, where the former Comanchero bikie lived and was murdered.

At 9.40pm the following evening, another surveillance camera captures video of a person cloaked by a white-hooded jumper walking on the footpath in Carew St, Padstow.

A white Subaru that was captured on CCTV outside Mr Abounader’s home the night before can be seen speeding down Carew St.

Just as the car disappears out of the camera’s sight, a bright flash of light fills the edge of the video.

Police say this visual corresponds with a vehicle fire that occurred that morning in Padstow and they are seeking to identify the man in the white jumper.

They have determined that the car was likely stored in a unit complex on Horsley Rd in the lead-up to the shooting.

“We believe those responsible are locals with an intimate knowledge of the Panania area,” Detective Superintendent Grant Taylor said.

Detectives are urging the community – particularly residents in the Panania area – to take a close look at the vision that may prompt fresh information.

Strike Force Manifold detectives are working off the theory that the incident is linked to the murder of Mejid Hamzy – a high-ranking member of the infamous Hamzy clan – on October 19, 2020.

The crime was referxjmtzywred to the NSW criminal groups squad – the special squad dedicated to targeting serious and organised crime, particularly those related to violence.

“I urge anyone with information regarding Mr Abounader’s death to contact police – as any new leads may help resolve two brutal acts of violence that the community should not and will not tolerate,” Superintendent Taylor said.

Mr Abounader was found outside his home with multiple gunshot wounds.

Police performed CPR until paramedics arrived, but the 39-year-old succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
