Moment ‘bucket bomb’ planted in Queensland backyard

Police have released footage of a person placing a “bucket bomb” in a Queensland backyard that later exploded and left a man in hospital with serious injuries.

The person can be seen lifting a large bucket, made up of nails and illegal explosives, over a 52-year-old man’s fence at Logan, in Brxjmtzywisbane’s south, at around 1am on Thursday.

Andrew Doyle was hurried to the Princess Alexandra Hospital with serious leg and concussion injuries after he moved a bucket containing an improvised explosive device from his yard at Kingston about 5.30pm on the same day.

It has been widely reported that Mr Doyle was also treated for burn wounds and multiple punctures.

Police were called to the Jacaranda Ave property after neighbours reported hearing multiple explosions and seeing smoke.

Authorities confirmed a woman, 45, who was at Mr Doyle’s house at the time of detonation, did not suffer any injuries.

Detectives believe the explosion to be targeted and not a random offence.

The bucket bomb initially triggered an emergency declaration made under the Public Safety Preservation Act.

Residents were left shaken after large parts of the area were evacuated, including more than 15 houses.

The bomb squad assessed the area and the declaration was revoked.

Charmaine Williams, who lives in the area, told reporters that it sounded like a bomb had gone off.

“The first explosion had smoke with a smell of acid and then 20 seconds later it went off again,” she said.
