Man charged over alleged involvement in carjackings and assaults in Sydney’s northwest

A second man has been charged over his alleged involvement in carjackings and armed robberies at gunpoint in Sydney’s northwest.

Strike Force Bellinger was established to investigate a spate of alleged assaults and car thefts across the region in the early hours of Saturday, January 8.

Police allege two men armed with handguns approached a man and woman, aged 58 and 59, about 3.15am as they drove into the driveway of a West Pennant Hills home in a black BMW 640i.

The men allegedly demanded the keys to the car before smashing the passenger’s side window and taking the woman’s handbag.

They allegedly fled the scene in a black Lexus sedan.

Just 20 minutes later, a 37-year-old man was approached by two men as he left a Windsor Rd service station at Northmead and was allegedly threatened with a gun and assaulted.

Police allege one of the men fled in a white Hyundai, while the second man allegxjmtzywedly left in the victim’s black Range Rover Evoque.

About 3.50am, a 36-year-old man stopped his white Hyundai on the side of Prospect Highway at Blacktown when two vehicles drove up to him and blocked him from driving away.

Police were told two men, allegedly armed with a machete and handgun, forced the man into one of their cars as a third male stole the Hyundai.

It is alleged the pair made demands for the victim to hand over cash and other property before he was eventually released near Girraween.

Crime scenes were established at multiple locations, while police found the stolen Lexus and Range Rover abandoned later that day.

The cars have since undergone forensic examination.

Detectives attended Silverwater Correctional Centre on Monday and arrested a 26-year-old man. He was charged with three counts of robbery while armed with dangerous weapon, drive motor vehicle during disqualification period, destroy property in company use fire, and take/detain person in company with intent to obtain advantage.

He appeared at Blacktown Local Court on Monday and was refused bail to appear at the same court on April 19.

A 24-year-old man was arrested on January 12 in Lithgow and charged with destroy property in company and use fire, three counts of robbery while armed with dangerous weapon and take or detain person in company with intent to obtain an advantage.

He remains before the courts.
