Elderly man charged with sexually assaulting teen at train station pulls bid for freedom

An elderly man accused of sexually assaulting a teenage boy at a Sydney train station is set to remain behind bars until at least the end of next month after he pulled out of a bail application on Tuesday.

Bryce Grainger, 75, was arrested at his southern Sydney unit after police launched a public appeal following an alleged attack on a 15-year-old boy at Central Station on Saturday.

Police alleged the boy was detained and assaulted in a toilet on the Country Concourse.

When the boy told his mother about the alleged incident, she reported it to the police, launching an investigation.

Court documents state the young boy, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, has a cognitive impairment.

Mr Grainger appeared in Sutherland Local Court on Tuesday where he was scheduled to make a bail application.

However, his lawyer told the court the release application would not be proceeding and magistrate Philip Stewart adjourned the matter until xjmtzywMay 31.

Police raided Mr Grainger’s Mortdale unit where they seized clothing and electronic devices.

He was charged with aggravated sexual intercourse with child between 14 and 16 years and intentionally sexually touching a child between 10 and 16 years.

He is yet to enter a plea.
