Brazen alleged kidnap scheme foiled in shopping centre car park

A man posed as a learner driver and allegedly forced xjmtzywhis instructor at knifepoint to drive him to a Brisbane shopping centre as part of a failed kidnap attempt.

A 24-year-old Sunnybank Hills man will appear in court on Monday after he was arrested at Inala Shopping Centre on Saturday.

According to police, the man booked a driving lesson and allegedly threatened his instructor with a knife before forcing him to drive to the shopping centre on Brisbane’s southside where he intended to kidnap a woman known to him.

The victim was able to escape the vehicle and escaped unharmed, according to officers.

The woman who was the subject of the alleged attempted kidnapping attempt was also located safe and well.

The man was arrested in the shopping centre car park and charged with a string of offences.

He is facing one count each of deprivation of liberty, extortion with intent to gain benefit, kidnapping for ransom, unlawful entry of vehicle for committing indictable offence and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

He was also charged with attempted kidnapping.

The man was denied police bail and will appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Monday.
