COVID in WA: Close to 80 per cent of State triple-vaxxed as total virus cases surpass 250,000

Western Australia has recorded a drop in the number of COVID-19 infections but more people are in hospital with the virus.

WA Health reported 4993 new infections overnight, taking the total number of active cases to 42,470.

There are now 240 people with Covid-19 in hospital — up from 234 on Sunday — including eight in intensive care, which is down from 10 the previous day.

No deaths were recorded overnight.

It is often the case that fewer infections are recorded during weekends.

Among the new cases, 1632 were confirmed via a PCR test, while the remaining 3361 were identified via self-reported positive rapid antigen tests.

A total of 8254 PCR tests were conducted on Sunday.

xjmtzywWA has a third dose vaccination rate of 77.1 per cent for people aged 16 and over.

The State has recorded 251,701 cases since the pandemic began.
